The etymon savant derives from a Latin base meaning to be wise. Savant first made an appearance in the French language to refer to a man of learning. While the word has commonly been associated with an eminent scholar or learned person, it has always suggested an extended meaning to embrace someone of insightful presence who perceives with a distilled clarity. Hence, the addition of the French word clair, which means clear, to create the gallery name. That distillation has been applied to the photographic work of Brian Vikander over the years because the conceptual basis of his imagery has always conveyed an insightful feeling that few can convey but that many intuitively understand.
